The Campaign for Bement - Report of Phase I completion
Fundraising
Through the leadership efforts of our head of school, Shelley
Jackson, and the support from the Board of Trustees, a project
totaling $2.7 million was put into motion. This is the first
campaign of this magnitude for the school, but in true Bement
fashion, our community of trustees, parents, past parents, alumni/ae
and friends made this a priority in its philanthropic giving.
One hundred donors later, the goal of $2.7 million achieved, the
upper school was completed in June, 2002.
As leadership donors on this project, Mike & Lisa Kittredge P'06
dedicated the new upper school as the "Kittredge Upper School
Building" on May 7, 2004. The joyous all-school celebration included
a "thank you " card signed by the student body, balloons & cake, and
a school band performance.
Benefits of a new upper school
Our new upper school fits naturally into the Bement landscape, and
one cannot imagine it not having been here all along. Because of its
proximity to the Keith House, which houses Kindergarten through
Second Grade, it truly brings the lower and upper school students
and faculty closer together.
The new upper school provides the following:
- Eleven classrooms and two science labs (equipped for high school
biology)
- Networked classrooms with high speed internet access
- Locker rooms for 65 boys and 65 girls
- Multi-purpose meeting space capable of hosting all-school events
- Conference space for faculty, parents, students, and administration
